For this special aerial photograph for the U.S. Navy and the Canadian Air Force, the U.S. Navy Demonstration Squadron—more commonly known as the Blue Angels—flies in a tight formation a few hundred feet below the Canadian Air Demonstration tea, also known as the Snowbirds. The photo was taken over the wide open spaces near Evansville, Indiana on June 25. A huge air show featuring both the Blue Angels and the Snowbirds was held along the Ohio River near downtown Evansville a few days later, and featured dozens of other military and civilian aircraft from around the U.S. and Canada.

The Navy’s Blue Angel squadron performed scores of demonstrations of flying skill and aerial stunts during the two day show. This U.S. Navy photo was taken by mass communications specialist 1st class Michael Lindsey.
