Warrior Games, founded in 2010, provide an opportunity for wounded veterans to compete athletically in strenuous and robust physical competition. This photo shows military veterans competing in a 100 meter sprint on Wednesday at Department of Defense Warrior Games in Butler Stadium at the Marine Corps Base in Quantico, Virginia.

The games offer nearly a dozen adaptive sports for wounded or injured servicemen and servicewomen representing all branches of the U.S. and British military. (The games are open to current members and veterans of the Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Army, Navy, Air Force, and Special Operations Command, as well as any veteran of the British armed forces). Although the games are more than five years old, 2015 marks the first year in which the U.S. DoD has taken the forefront in planning and coordinating the events, which this year have more than 250 competitors.
